AMD representatives talked about the company plans , which relate to the release of 45- nm processors.
First 45- nm processor (code name shanghai) is planned during the present year. Its engineering sample models are already running under Windows. This new cpu is close to opteron processor (Barcelona) stepping B3, but it will differ from in terms of hyperTransport 3.0 support .
HyperTransport 3.0 will serve as connection between processors and southern bridges. According to some new data, from motherboards producers , now HyperTransport 3.0 will be used only as connection between the processors.
Using four core Shanghai as starting point, AMD plans to let release the native (all cores on one chip) six-core processor. This processor was called Istanbul .
Later AMD plans to release processors with two chips in one packing, which have 12 cores. Each Core will be connected with others using the internal system bus hyperTransport 3.0.
Each chip will get its own dual-channel memory controller .
Motherboards producers assert that Shanghai will be compatible with the existing motherboards socket 1207. Certainly, the connection between processors in such motherboards will be limited by the hyperTransport frequencies .
