We already reported that 45 nm AMD processors will be suppled in the desktop segment in the second-half of 2008. AMD representatives recently stated about the readiness to propose the related server processors shanghai in the fourth quarter of the present year.
But according to our associate, the announcement of first 45 nm deneb processors will takes place only on 8 January, 2009. The two first models will belong to the sufficiently hot energy class with TDP value =125 W, their frequencies will be equal to 2.8 GHz and 3.0 GHz . These processors will have the design concept socket AM2+, which support dual-channel memory DDR 2-1066.
According to AMD intention , socket AM3 processors can support alternately DDR-2 and DDR- 3, and possess compatability with old motherboard with AM2 and AM2+ sockets.
AMD was forced to change their plans due to certain compatability problems with deneb processors and old socket AM2 motherboards . Even using Socket AM2+ the first 45 nm processors will not work in such motherboard with socket AM2. But if the motherboard is equipped with socket AM2+, or has the socket AM2 with two phase power, then deneb processors will work be without problems.
Deneb processors socket AM3 also have similar problems with compatability . In this case deneb processors socket AM3 with TDP level not more than 125 W will be released only in the beginning of March. However, engineering models will begin to be extended already during August this year.
Note that 45 nm AMD processors will exist only in Socket AM3: this concerns the four core processors propus without cache in the third level, the three core processors heka with 6 mb cache in the third level, the three core processors rana without cache in the third level, and the dual core processors regor with 2 X 1 mb cache in the second level. The latter, will be released in the third quarter 2009.
Moreover, AMD is assembled to transfer on 45 nm technology the single core budget processors, but this will happen as long ago as 2010. In 2009 budget sector will include only the platform socket AM2.
