Associate reported new details about the memory overclock using bloomfield processors . First Intel company planned to gives a relative freedom on the memory overclock only for elder bloomfield model , which has the suffix extreme. However, recently they decided to extend this possibility to the owners of cheaper processors core i7 940 (2.93 GHz) and Core i7 920 (2.66 GHz).
The bios of LGA 1366 motherboards will include the appropriate setting for memory overclocking , which can be used with all bloomfield models . It will be also possible to overclock the QPI bus , which in elder bloomfield model works at high frequency, but the operating speed of single-processor system will not be affected significantly with QPI overclock. Low-end bloomfield models can overclock without special problems from 2.66 GHz to 4.0 GHz, and the processor core i7 extreme 965 (3.2 GHz) with the free multiplier is completely capable to be overclocked up to 4.5 GHz with the use of air cooling. | ||
