Core i7 (Bloomfield) processors will acquire the built-in three-channel memory controller , this will set some limitations on the operation regimes of memory modules . Formally Core i7 do not supports memory faster than DDR 3-1066, but the presence of dividers allow to accelerate the memory independently from the processor core and QPI bus.
The built-in memory controller in core i7 processors supports the three-channel memory DDR 3-800 and DDR 3-1066 with volume not more than 4Gb. If the motherboard has six slots DIMM, then it it is possible to install not more than 24 GB . For the majority of desktop systems this is more than enough. To each channel is separated not more than two DIMM slots , which accept only non-buffered memory.
As in the case with any system, which supports DDR3 memory , the order of memory modules installation should be observed : first are filled (slot 0) ( near the processor ), and only then (slot 1). Related Products :
