We already reported some information about the first 40 NM models RV740 chip coupled with GDDR- 5.
The 40 NM RV740 chip on its status resembles greatly as replacement to the radeon HD 4830, but not to the Radeon HD 4670 (RV730) : 640 standardized stream processors, 32 textural blocks and 16 rops blocks . The memory bus will be 128- bit. According to AMD, this is sufficient for guaranteeing high capacity with GDDR 5 memory . The core frequency is currently unknown , but the memory volume is 512 Mb will operate at 3600 MHz QDR frequency . RV740 will be also used with GDDR-4, GDDR- 3 and GDDR-2 memory. A thinner technical process will allow RV740 chip to consume less electric power in comparison with Radeon HD 4830. The speed of 40 NM technical process will be located between Radeon HD 4830 and Radeon HD 4850, the price of video cards on base of RV740 will be below $100. RV740 announcement is planned for the second quarter 2009. | ||
