Recently, Microsoft released a new Beta version of its promising operating system windows 7 , last time, we checked the performance of this new OS (Beta 6956 vs windows XP Sp3) , This time we will check the old and new beta (7000.0 Beta 1) and also windows XP . First let us start with some screen shot . And a quick task manager right after the installs : 39 process and 557 Mb in use , not bad in comparison with windows vista . Windows 7 gives our testing machine the score 5.5 (Max 7.9) , 6.9 for the core 2 E8500@ 3.6 GHz (even 4.5 GHz do not allow to boost this score to 7 , So 7 and above are for Quad processor only ), 5.5 for the memory (raising the overall memory from 2 GB to 4Gb boosted this result immediately to 6.5 ), For the Desktop graphic performance windows 7 give the Geforce 9800GT the max score (this card is more than enough for desktop application) , Gaming Score was only 5.5 which is correct for the used card (9800GT), HDD score was only 5.9 (2x320GB SATA Seagate @ raid 0) , look like Windows 7 look for SSD performance for higher scores . Windows 7 come with DirectX 11 , too bad there is no video card or application which support this API . Our Test System : Without excess words let us pass directly to the benchmark , we will start from daily use application (Compressing / Decompressing) . The archiving performance was improved with the new Beta release ,now it can be considered as higher than windows Xp . The memory bandwidth was also improved a bit in this new release , just like the CPU performance . However, we can note a slight latency delay in comparison with the older build . Windows 7 beta 7000.0 come with faster cache performance . The HDD performance was lower for some reason , It is clear that Microsoft is working on some HDD performance application or driver . Currently we deal with beta release moreover Intel Inf chipset and HDD driver refused to install , so we are fully dependent from Microsoft build in driver. The OpenGl performance was fairly improved in comparison with the last build , but it was not enough to reach the windows XP level , Rendering in this case is faster with Windows 7 . We can observe a lower Sm2.0 and Sm3.0 score (Windows 7 6956 vs Windows 7 7000) , but the CPU score in this case was slightly improved , We can expect clearly a worse gaming result. No change observed in FurMark all operating system are similar . And here the same picture as in 3D 2006 . It is clear that Microsoft is working hard to improve its new operating system , let us wait for the new Beta , we hope to see some real HDD and 3D driver for better picture . | ||

| try doing it again for graphics but using an ATI 3 or 4 series card as ati have a WDDM 1.1 beta driver out that runs well |

| Thanks for notice , next build, we will try an ati video card , Note the last build (Beta 6956) resulted in a black screen (right after the install)this is why we decided to keep the nvidia video card. |

| Hey, Win7 is bad enough to compete against WINE, :P
CONCLUSION
No one allrady running XP will benefit from
downgrading to Vista/Win7.
(Only way out seems to be Linux, lol)

| Omg.. Microsoft done a Vista light version, that is no better than their already XP version.. Hallelujah.. If only games ran on Linux without Wine\'ing it.. |
