Asus company already presented the notebook eee PC 1000HE - first product, built on the new processor Intel atom n280 (1.66 GHz) and integrated chipset Intel GN40, which allows to accelerate HD video decoding at the hardware level. The release of this chipset must decrease the quantity of reproaches to the integrated chipset Intel 945GSE, on which is based the majority of notebooks.
Associate reported that on sale the notebook eee PC 1000HE will enter at the end of February or the beginning of March. Simultaneously associates explained, in what segment Intel it is going to position notebooks on base of Intel GN40. It occurs, that such notebook will not replace the chipset Intel 945GSE, but it will only supplement it. In this case the more developed built-in graphic core has the increased energy consumption: if atom n270 + 945GSE has TDP not more than 8 W, then atom n280 + GN40 raises the TDP value to 16,5 W. In this case the replacement of processor does not affect the TDP value - atom n280 + 945GSE works within the previous thermal packet (8 W).
The Chipset Intel GN40 will be used for notebook with the extended multimedia possibilities. If the processor atom n280 is supported by both chipset Intel GN40 and chipset Intel 945GSE, then the processor atom N270 will not be supported by GN40 chipset. This limitation has a purely marketing nature, for Atom n280 + GN40 producer will request $60-65, which is almost one and a half times more than the cost of atom n270 + 945GSE.
In the fourth quarter Intel will present the platform pine Trail- M, which uses the processors atom (Pineview) with the integrated graphic core. Their TDP level will not exceed 8 W. Related Products :
