According to the characteristics of RV740 and RV790 chips , AMD plan to increase the frequency of those GPU : from 750 to 850 MHz in case of RV790 chip , achieved by increase in the vcore voltage from 1.26 to 1.3 v. . Associate asserts that the main reason for delay in the introduction of 40 nm technical process in the mass production is the high currents leakage . It was impossible to solve this problem, and the energy consumption level of 40 nm chips, produced by TSMC, will be hardly improved. It is not necessary to wait for substantial changes in the frequency potential of 40 nm chips for the same reason. AMD and NVIDIA will order their video chip from TSMC company ; But, video chip producers will greet passage on 40 nm technical process, since it will allow to decrease the core area . Thus Nvidia and AMD can reach a reduction in the prime cost, and the possibility to increase the quantity of functional blocks and to raise the speed in certain cases . | ||
