Many sources these days are wondering who will get Toshiba's solid-state memory business, and representatives of controllers developer for solid-state drives Phison Electronics in comments to the site DigiTimes admitted that they see American corporation Western Digital as a favorite of bidding with the Japanese, because this manufacturer of drives already own SanDisk, which has a joint venture with Toshiba.
Longstanding Toshiba partners in the segment of devices using solid-state memory are Phison, Kingston and Powertech Technology (PTI). All of them are counting on maintaining good relations with the new owners of Toshiba's NAND-type memory business. Such owners may be several, according to Phison, and the last of the companies is ready to invest in the assets of the manufacturer of memory that is independent of Toshiba. This initiative can be supported by other long-standing partners of Toshiba, as representatives of the controller developer believe.
Phison strengthens its position not only in the smartphone segment, but also in the automotive electronics market. Solid-state memory inevitably finds application in automotive systems: it is compact, not afraid of extreme temperatures, high humidity and vibration. Accordingly, we need automotive components and controllers SSD, which develops Phison.
