intel launches this day its first processors based on architecture Core, Xeon 5100. Previously known under the name of code Woodcrest, Xeon 5100 are declined as follows:
5160 (3.00 GHz, FSB1333, 4 Mo L2): 851$
5150 (2.66 GHz, FSB1333, 4 Mo L2): 690$
5140 (2.33 GHz, FSB1333, 4 Mo L2): 455$
5130 (2.00 GHz, FSB1333, 4 Mo L2): 316$
5120 (1.86 GHz, FSB1066, 4 Mo L2): 256$
5110 (1.60 GHz, FSB1066, 4 Mo L2): 209$
The 3 GHz version is announced for a TDP of 80 Watts, against 65 Watts for the others - that was changes from Xeon Netburst. These processors use platform LGA771 introduced with Xeon 5000 at the beginning of this year,. Side chipset the same thing as series 5000 with distinct bus FSB1066/1333 for each of the two processors managed as well as memory FB-DIMM on 4 channels.
For recall, the FB-DIMM is distinguished from the existing memories with integration of Advanced Memory Buffer bar which acts as intermediary between the memory chips and the memory controller . This controller manages traditional chips DDR2 and is its addressed via a new type of point-to-point bus and signals in series similar to those used in PCI Express. This will allow to manage up to 8 bar by channel without having to reduce the speed and on the other hand to limit the number of tracks per channel to be able to increase the number of channels without complexing the PCB of motherboard.
