we had already wrote in the past month that the dual core
processor Athlon 64 X2 3600+ Socket AM2 will appeare on
the retail market in the fourth quarter of this year. This
processor will become the main AMD weapon to fight
with cheap processors Pentium D 9xx, its
price should be between $100-150.
Last week we had reported that AMD has transferred the announcement periods of
processor Athlon 64 X2 3600+ from the fourth quarter
to the third quarter this year. Possibly, the debut of this
processor consists through pair of weeks after 24 July
" when come the planned prices reduction ".
Athlon 64 X2 3600+ will becaume
the basic competitor of processors Pentium D 925 (3.0 GHz) and Pentium
D 915 (2.8 GHz), witch prices will be packed in range $113-133.
According to the preliminary estimations, Athlon 64 X2 3600+
is faster than processors Pentium D 915/925, and this is
completely explained - he works at the frequency of 2.0 GHz, and with
reduced cache to 2 X 256 KB .cache is not playing big with A64 so the 2 ghz will be pretty enough
there is even a published photograph of the processor
Athlon 64 X2 3600+, in which we can it distinctly saw marking ADO3600IAA4CU. She allows to us to
isolated the three basic distinctive " special features " of this
processor. First, symbols "ADO" talk about the
processor TDP " not more than 65 W "- this is very symbolic, note that
processors Core 2 duo E6xxx have precisely this thermal level.
According to some
data, the dual processors Athlon 64 x2 produced on Fab 36 have additional indices of energy consumption, that also
allows AMD to improve the thermal characteristics of its dual core
processors without passaging to a new technological precess.
In the second place, number "4" show to us the 2 X 256 KB cache in the second level "L2". As we
already noted, from AMD side the solution using lower cache in new processor is purlly economoical.
it is possible to get rid of the defective cpus,
by reducing the cache size . From
other side, this will allows a sufficiently high clock frequency designed for
budget processor.
Furthermore, high multiplier allow the best conditions for
high overclocking.
Thirdly, two last symbols in the processor, "CU",
talk about a certain progressive stepping,
which should be called the F4 stepping. it was noted that all
existing processors with this
stepping F2, have 2 X 512 KB of cache
