Broadcom company already showed their interest in using Ethernet interface to the video data inside the car. The initiative was designed to reduce system cost PPI.
As reports assocaite, Broadcom and NXP developers and chip manufacturers supported by manufacturers of automotive speakers to set up a working group which will work towards an open standard for using Ethernet interfaces in automotive applications.
This standard was designated as OPEN (One Pair Ether-Net), it implies the use of unshielded twisted pair UTP for data transmission at speeds up to 100 Mbits / sec. This guide can significantly reduce the cost of infrastructure. It is assumed that in the U.S. market in the near future, the presence of video cameras that provide all-round visibility, will be a requirement to the car. Initiative to develop such a standard is already supported by BMW and Hyundai.
Broadcom proposes the technology BroadR-Reach, which provides compatibility with existing automotive systems based on CAN bus and LIN. Support for the IP protocol makes the development of automotive devices less expensive and quicker. The first chip to support BroadR-Reach, NXP will release in the form of samples in 2013.
