Colleagues predict a wide range of thin and flexible display device. Previously, the developers of these devices consistently faced roblem of isolation of active metals such as magnesium, potassium and lithium, the use of which was inevitable. In order to protect them from the influence of oxygen and moisture barrier protection had to be created, for example, of glass. Now this problem has found a simple solution, thanks to a special polymer, under development at Georgia University.
This electronics covers, polymer protective layer thickness of about 10 nm, and strong enough to protect it from environmental influences. It is fairly inexpensive, and is compatible with the modern methods of manufacturing printed circuit boards. With its help professionals have managed to create a flexible OLED-displays and solar cells. In addition, according to the developers, the use of this polymer can reduce the oxidation of silver, copper and other conductors, increasing the reliability of any electronic equipment.
