We already published the review of dual core processors Pentium e2140 (1.6 GHz) and Pentium e2160 (1.8 GHz). According to benchmarks those processor has better performance than athlon 64 X2 3600+ (we recall that the price of this last is only 73$ ) , but their prices are also higher - $74 and $84.Such prices will be set in the beginning of June, when both processors appear on the market. We was interested, how processors series Pentium e2xxx are capable to overclock. It is already known that these dual cores processors are based on stepping L2 core allendale, simply the volume of active cache is reduced from 2 mb to 1 mb. The potential Of allendale-L2 is completely sufficiently for overclocking , But these processors should overclock worse than conroe stepping B2, But for such price , over 3GHZ overclock 3.is considered as a completely successful. So to show the best result we overclocked the Pentium e2160 (1.8 GHz) to 3.0 GHz . the same was for processors core 2 Duo e4300 (1.8 GHz) and Athlon 64 X2 3600+ (1.9 GHz) but here we note that far from all x2 3600+ clock to 3 ghz. Furthermore, we added just as reference the processor core 2 Extreme x6800 (2.93 GHz) working at (2.99 GHz). we used the motherboard gigabyte GA -P965-Ds4 on base of chipset Intel p965, video card geForce 8800 GTX and 2 X 512 mb memory type DDR 2-1066 with chips micron D9. In this case the memory for Pentium e2160 system worked in regime DDR 2-833 (4- 4- 4-12). As you see, the overclocked to 3.0 GHz  frequency processor Pentium e2160 exceeds its AMD competitor by 16% average , the difference in the price between them composes 15%. as a result, the relationship price / performance in Pentium e2160 and Athlon 64 X2 3600+ is approximately identical . If we compare Pentium e2160 with 4 mb cache analog Core 2 Duo e6850 then the deference in speed is 25% , and with 2 mb cache Core 2 Duo e4300 the advantage is 12%. It is clear that similar difference in speed level does not justify the price difference , which is higher than 30%. This is one of the best arguments in favor of Pentium e2160 (1.8 GHz) if user will overclock its processor . Related Products :
