We already know that socket AM2+ processors can be installed in socket AM 2 motherboard . User in this case will loose the support Of hyper-Transport 3.0 and also the more flexible power control . We already reported that the installation of processor socket AM2+ in motherboard with similar socket allow to save up to 10% electric power in comparison with socket AM2 motherboard. This advantage will not interest all users . ;-)
With reference to data from AMD presentation associate report, that the separate power control of processor cores and controller memory in platform socket AM2+ allow to increase the frequency of memory controller relative to core by 300-400 MHz. The third level cache in processors k10 generation is powered from one source with the memory controller ; therefore with presence of higher voltage will slightly overclock the cache.
