The problems with doubling number of transistors in the CPU was not observed.  They are on the horizon, In ten years the usual lithographic processes have exhausted their even theoretical possibilities.  But in the ten years radio transmitter and  wireless receiver can follow Moore's Law . On the third and final day of 2012 IDF Intel chief technology officer  , Justin Rattner , showed the work performed almost entirely on silicon transmitter and receiver, Wi-Fi as standard 802.11g.  The analog part took only some input stage circuit and an antenna.  Everything else, including the frequency synthesizer, digital phase modulator, RF power amplifier, ADC and some small items were performed using 32-nm process in one monolithic crystal as the ultimate digital circuits.   The advantages of this approach are obvious.  Since the elements of analog circuits can not tolerate reduced scale process technology, they can not follow the digital part on the same rapid pace.  Create a radio using only digital elements means to remove this barrier and thus improve efficiency, reduce the rather big area and lower power consumption.  The transition from 90 nm to 32 nm has enabled four times to reduce the area of the integrated radio and more than halve their consumption and production of 14-nm crystal will reduce the area of the radio unit by five. A prototype of processor Intel Atom - RosePoint - fully confirmed the practical ability to combine in one advanced digital process technology, transceiver and a standard set of kit SoC Atom. The digital denominator have almost all the basic components of the radio, except for the drive in the receiver and amplifier with low noise .  Part of the transmitter power amplifier also remained analog. But compared to modern counterparts channels Wi-Fi Intel approach looks much more elegant.  Compare the pictures below, the top picture.  In the modern figure the radio is used only at the initial stage of signal processing (in its low-frequency part), and all the rest - are analog elements, including inductors, delay lines, operational amplifiers, and more, it is almost impossible to fit into a modern chip. Intel just elegantly solved the problem with the processing of high-frequency signal.  Intel experts described the work of the high-frequency using mathematical equations, erasing signal processing to calculate the elementary process.   As you can see, Intel prepared a very promising technology.  It starts its way to the consumer, obviously, with processors for tablets, ultrabooks and laptops.   Related Products :
