When G80 chip was announced , NVIDIA company  talked about the possibility to use this video chip for accelerating different calculations - the corresponding concept was called : CUDA. The official announcement of the corresponding solutions had to take place during June, and it took place yesterday. Let us describe about the new platform NVIDIA . NVIDIA opened the way to the super-computer calculations with video card class quadro FX 5600, which are close relatives to the geForce 8800 GTX , the only difference, is with memory volume ( the quadro FX 5600 video card is equipped with 1,5 Gb GDDR3 memory )   . In super-computer version such video card is deprived from monitor connection ports ,simply  they are not necessary . This product is called : GPU computing processor, model is designated as Tesla c870. This processor on base of video chip operates at frequencies 575/1350/1600 MHz, the maximum energy consumption level does not exceed 170 W. The cost of this card is $1299, which is much less than analogous in characteristics video card quadro FX 5600 ($2999). . In sale tesla c870 will appear during August. NVIDIA asserts that Tesla c870 ensures speed at the level of 518 gigaflops. Theoretically, one card on the base of chip g80 is faster than forty x86- compatible processors. Furthermore, C870 possesses ultra high energy effectiveness. For example, the same 40 processors consume up to 1600 W , and C870 is satisfied by 170 W. As second product of tesla series we have the : D870 . This is the case quadro plex, capable of placing two card class tesla c870. This system has 3 Gb GDDR3 memory and speed higher than 1 tetra-flop. The required power level does not exceed 520-550 W, the noise level does not exceed 40 DB. Tesla d870  can be connected to work station  using cable and board interface , it can be installed in free slot PCI express x8 or PCI express x16. In one work station it is possible to connect from two to four external case tesla d870 . Each system tesla d870 costs $7500, in sale they will appear during August of the present year. The most powerful and most expensive product in this family will become server for calculations on the base of video chip S870 , witch contains four card on base of chip g80 and placed in standard 19 inch server , case has a form factor 1U. The system tesla s870 as total has 6 Gb GDDR- 3 memory and ensure speed more than 2 tetra flop. The required power  level does not exceed 800 W, standard value is equal to 550 W. Such servers can be connected in series, increasing performance as needed. The cost of one server tesla s870 is equal to $12 000. Applications under Tesla can be written in c++ language  , witch facilitates work for programmers. With tesla platform , it is planned to execute scientific, engineering calculations, simulate physical and seismic processes - in a word, make the work, which was earlier executed by traditional supers-computer.  In future , CUDA will accelerate physics in games.... Tesla will not extrude supers-computer from the market - it will simply open access to this calculations type for companies with smaller budgets.
