While the processors core 2 Duo, Pentium e2xxx and Core 2 Quad pass from stepping G0 on M0, improving their starting overclocking, single core processors celeron 4xx (Conroe- L) still in the limits of A1 stepping . The Most obvious for overclocker problem with this stepping is the presence FSB wall on the limit of 400 MHz FSB. The low multiplier in celeron 4xx series models do not allow to overcome the desired overclock frequencies. As rule, the majority of processors are overclocked to less than 400 MHz frequency in the system bus.
The overclock records for celeron 4xx processors is set with an engineering models possessing high multiplier, moreover it was necessary to cool this chip to minus temperatures. For example, on pages of xtremeSystems appeared the description of overclock experiment with the engineering model celeron 4xx stepping A1 with 12x multiplier to the frequencies more than 4.3 GHz with the modified extreme cooling, which allow to set the temperature to minus 32 degrees Celsius .
Focus attention, the system bus frequency did not reach the limit - it was equal to only 363 MHz, although this processor copy has FSB wall on the range 405-406 MHz, if we believe to the authors of experiment. This example clearly shows that the success in the overclock of celeron 4xx processors mainly depends on the presence of high multiplier.
Unfortunately, there are no processors celeron 4xx with multiplier 12x and 2.4 GHz frequency in the official intel road map for this year
