Experts from the National Broadcasting Company of Japan (NHK) said that OLED - display are short-lived. These words have meaning, because the OLED pixels - the matrix negatively impacted by the atmosphere and by the direct action of air lose half its brightness in 100 days. Of course, the commercial products are protected from such exposure, but this protection is not perfect, and OLED screens will inevitably fade.
NHK improved OLED matrix by interchanging the anode and the cathode, compared with the traditional configuration of the layers, and adding an additional protective coating over the cathode. As a result, the matrix has received protection from fading even under partial isolation from the atmosphere. Products made by this technology, dubbed iOLED (i - inverted), will be showcased at Display Week, held later this month.
