Scientists from the University of Southampton demonstrated the process of recording, made of quartz glass with a special nanostructure. The record itself was conducted using a femtosecond laser, and experts have dubbed it 5d-record because the information is determined not only by the position of the cell, but also its shape and orientation. The density of the information recorded thus about 7000 times higher than the two-layer Blu-ray disk is about 360 TB at the same size .
However, the most interesting is not the capacity of the storage capacitance as its long-term ability to retain stored information. According to Professor Peter Kazansky (Peter Kazansky) - one of the leaders of the research team - this technology allows to do so persistent storage, the information on them can survive the human civilization. If necessary data can be overwritten by the same laser.
