The first quite widely spread standard for the transmission of electricity, as Qi was promoted vt interdisciplinary consortium Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) and is based on the effect of electromagnetic induction. Qi technology is extremely simple. Two other competing standards promoted by groups Power Matters Alliance (PMA) and the Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP), based on the effect of electromagnetic resonance that allows to carry transmit and receive modules for distances up to 5 cm and not worry about the relative orientation of the antennas. Moreover, PMA and A4WP agreed to develop common specifications and corresponding certification program, thus putting Qi standard in more difficult conditions.

Cheerleaders Qi forced to react to the circumstances of folding and thus should retain compatibility with its issued devices. WPC reaction was to complement the specification electromagnetic resonance technology. Surprisingly, yes? But it is hoped that all three protocols can be turned into a single standard. Today around the world produced about 50 million receivers with support for the first specifications Qi, and about 500 certified products.

The new specifications will allow to transfer energy to a distance of 45 mm. Today, the transmission power is limited to 5 watts. In one of the following versions of the standard developers promise to increase the transmission power of up to 2 kW. Such power will be used in kitchen appliances and in industry. If you believe the representatives of WPC, the hands of the partner group has the Q version 1.1 to transmit power range of up to 30 mm, and 1.2 with a transmission distance of 45 mm.
