It is generally believed that the technology of wireless charging of electric vehicles will be in demand in the future, when vehicles will no longer need to be manned, and will themselves navigate the routes that it specifies.
Reuters reports that Qualcomm Corporation demonstrated two prototypes of electric vans Renault Kangoo, which, when driving on a test site in Versailles, could recharge the traction batteries wirelessly. The circuit of the charging system was built right into the test track. It is alleged that in this way it is possible to transfer up to 20 kW of electric power, moving at speeds "typical for the highway."
European authorities must decide on a Qualcomm deal with NXP Semiconductors on June 9th. If it is approved, then Qualcomm will become the largest player in the component segment for automotive electronics. In addition to charging and management technologies, the company relies on the telecommunications capabilities of future cars.
