The idea of wireless charging traction batteries of electric vehicles has long been discussed engineering community.
General Motors Corp. will develop a wireless charging technology traction batteries of electric vehicles in collaboration with WiTricity, which was originally founded in the famous Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). As a prototype of the program participants are going to use a hybrid car Chevrolet Volt.
WiTricity representatives argue that hidden under the asphalt charging circuit capable of wirelessly transmitting up to 90% of the initial capacity. Development of the system promise to be completed by the end of next year, but GM has not yet explained, when and in what serial electric vehicles it will find application.
