Team LTS Team, carrying out a long-term support for Debian, reported that the version of Debian 6.0 (squeeze) to February 29, will no longer be maintained because this day ends a five-year support cycle. At the same time from 26 April will begin support of the previous stable release Debian 7 (wheezy).
In general, Debian 7 received LTS status (Long Time Support), and now 5 years will be released security updates and patches. For users, we recommend switching to Debian 7 or the recently published version of Debian 8.
Recall that the eighth version was published on April 25 last year. It is supported by more hardware at the expense of an extended database of drivers, as well as improved administration tools.
It should be also noted that the previous LTS-releases Debian had a three-year support that sharply limited their use in the workplace. But compared to the Red Hat Enterprise Linux and SUSE Linux Enterprise, having 10 years of support, Debian and Ubuntu LTS do not look too impressive.
