The company Western Digital Corporation today announced it has signed an agreement with Samsung Electronics Company, which resumes bilateral licensing packages patents of both companies related to semiconductor technology. The validity of the old agreement expired August 14, 2016, and the new agreement provides for cooperation between the companies until December 31, 2024 .
The agreement provides for the right to use both sides of each other's patents, widely covering multi-level solid state memory technology (MLC) and solid state drives. The company Western Digital Corp received a huge package of patents associated with solid-state memory after the acquisition of SanDisk in May this year, which is collaborating with Samsung since 1997.
The new agreement allows Western Digital Corp. not only to continue using Samsung technology associated with solid-state memory, but also to further research and development of next generation memory. In addition, at WDC now there is an excellent base for further research, which was created SanDisk for nearly 30 years with enormous investment of money and effort.
Samsung Company is also beneficial of this agreement, as it allows it to use the most advanced solid-state memory technology in its solid-state storage. Unfortunately, the financial side of the agreement were not disclosed.
