The global smartphone market slowdown according to analysts from research firm Gartner. They predict that in 2016 the pace of growth in smartphone shipments for the first time in a long time will be in the single digits.
According to NextPowerUp, Gartner analysts predict that by the end of 2017 shipments of smart phones will amount to 1.5 billion copies, which is only 7% compared to last year, when 1.44 billion smartphones were sold. For comparison, in 2015 the pace of the global smartphone market growth was 14.4%.
Gartner analysts point out that in many markets now seeing a decrease in demand due to saturation. In particular, we are talking about North America and Europe. And in China, now the demand for smartphones is not as high as before. The slowdown in the growth of smartphone shipments, they explain, including an increase in the duration of mobile devices use. The average smartphone will now be used for 2.2-2.5 years.
But India is emerging as the fastest growing market of smartphones and the most attractive to smartphone manufacturers. According to Gartner, this year the country will have sold about 139 million smartphones, which is 29.5% more compared to the previous year. By the way, in 2015 the ordinary mobile phones in the country is still accounted for 61% of total sales of all types of mobile devices.
A less optimistic forecast from analysts IDC. We have previously reported that in early May, they have adjusted forecast for the volume of smartphone shipments in 2016.
