Lenovo has recently published the characteristics of the upcoming release of the updated line, ThinkPad 2017, the sample includes models ThinkPad T470p, L470, L570, T470, T570, X270 and Yoga 370.
However, one of the hardware upgrades ThinkPad notebook stands out from the crowd: new items are expected to be among the first that will take Intel Optane technology to the consumer market. In other words, the new Lenovo laptops will be used by fast solid state memory 3D XPoint.
However, as reported by our colleagues from TechPowerUp, in the new notebooks will use SSD Intel Optane volume of 16 GB, made in the form factor M.2 2242, which will work in conjunction with hard drives, and will act as a caching device. It is stated that this bundle will provide almost the same performance as a conventional SSD NVMe based on NAND-memory, while it has more memory, and costs less.
New Intel Optane devices will use the Lenovo, is likely to belong to the family, code-named Stony Beach, and represent the drives NVMe PCIe 3 x2. In retail, this series is likely to be called Intel Optane Memory 8000p, and it will be presented with drives up to 32 GB.
ThinkPad notebooks new generation will be on sale in January and February of the coming year, but unfortunately, so far is not known exactly when it will be available in models with hard drives Intel Optane.
