Last year Western Digital Corporation has completed the purchase of SanDisk's assets - a major producer of solid-state memory and storage of the corresponding type. For this reason, each quarterly report WDC will inevitably touch on business and the production of solid-state solutions. In the meantime, we are able to catch those comments made by the WDC, which relate directly to the hard drive on the magnetic platters.
The term petabyte capacity representatives of WDC is used in forecasting a gross capacity of commercially available hard drives. Growth rates of this magnitude do not coincide with the rate of increase in the density of recording information on the magnetic platters. The gross figure could rise due to the fact that Western Digital Corporation customers are buying more capacious hard drives, and this script just fit the description of the trends observed in the market "cloud" solutions and data centers.
WDC Guide predicts that in the coming years, the average growth rate of the gross capacity of the hard drives will be 40% per annum, although more recently, the company believed that it will not exceed 35% per year. Last quarter, WDC has shipped the 12 millionth hard disk using helium. These drives are available for the fourth year in a row, and in its fourth generation they will reach capacity of 14 TB, and will use the method of "tiled" magnetic recording (SMR).
