This weekend appeared peculiar novelty - microcomputers Raspberry Pi 3 in module form factor SO-DIMM DDR2. It is necessary to warn that the electrical contact module Raspberry Pi 3 does not correspond to the DDR2 memory contacts. In other words, the computer unit will not work in the laptop motherboard. Just a computer module developers have chosen the format SO-DIMM to create embedded solutions based on Raspberry Pi 3.  ATM, gaming machine, television or something there still may use removable computer Raspberry Pi 3 modules for repair and modernization. All necessary interface connectors on the motherboard will be a part of the device, while the "processing core" in the form of a removable module is subject to a simple replacement.  Computer modules Raspberry Pi Compute Module 3 (CM3) and Compute Module 3 Lite (CM3L) announced in mid-January. They use the same Broadcom BCM 2837 (four 1.2 GHz Cortex-A 53 core) processor, the original Raspberry Pi 3, released in February 2016. Each of the modules carries 1GB LPDDR2 RAM. The module eMMC memory capacity of 4 GB you can only find on the CM3 module, then the module CM3L devoid of flash memory (as in the photo above, which shows the reverse side of the module CM3L). On this depends the price. CM3 module MSRP is $ 30, and CM3L module - $ 25.  As the modules do not have any interface sockets, except contacts SO-DIMM, for debugging solutions are used Compute Module IO Board fee for the cost of about $ 10 developers.
