Manufacturers of virtual reality devices are actively working to add the accuracy and movements realism of the user in an imaginary world, as well as to provide the ability to manipulate virtual objects by using fingers, without requiring the use of special manipulators.
Sony Corporation has patented a method of tracking user movements of virtual reality helmet by means of optical sensors, micromirror system. An elaborate description of the invention in the patent application hides the solution familiar from HTC Vive device - it also requires installation of the optical sensors within the "gaming area", which are fixed by means of the user's movements.
PlayStation VR had to rely on the indicator light of the helmet and the outer chamber for tracking user movements. The proposed positioning method using the optical system is more accurate, though more expensive. There is no information about whether Sony will use a new method to work with the first generation PlayStation VR, or the invention will find application in future revisions of the device.
