(Doug dobson) PC power & cooling chief technologist expressed a sufficiently curious opinion with regard to the evolution of power units in the next three-five years. Now the + 3.3 v and 5 v on some power units models are obtained from the conversion type DC-DC (direct current in direct current) inside the power unit, and in the future the +12 v line generally can become single. Conversion of type DC-DC for the remaining lines will be achieved by the motherboard.
This will allow to increase the efficiency of power units and to decrease their cost, but also will increase the prime cost of motherboard, and can cause problems with the compatibility of old motherboards with new power units....
