SSD at present use two types memory microcircuits : MLC and SLC. If the first type enjoys popularity due to its relative cheapness, then the second is characterized by the high operation speed and price, and also has larger physical resource. If MLC microcircuit is capable of maintaining tens of thousands of write cycles, then this index is ten times more in SLC. Furthermore, SLC ensures almost twice speed advantage in reading operation.
Fusion-IO company reports that it succeeded in finding an operation mode with the memory of MLC type, which allow to reach a speed and longevity near SLC memory .This technology was called SMLC (Single mode level cell). Products with its use possess speed and reliability, compared with the solutions on base of SLC- memory, but in the cost they are close to products on base of MLC- memory.
In this block fusion-IO will start to supply SSD series ioDrive and ioDrive duo with 160 Gb and 320 Gb volume, which the use of SMLC technology. They will be oriented for server and corporate market, connection with motherboard will be achieved through PCI express. Related Products :
