The quarterly reports of many companies from IT- sphere contained identical motif: a seasonal drop in the demand in the first quarter in this year is compensated by a considerable gain realization volume and gain with respect to the first quarter last year.
The results of IDC company investigating speak, that the demand for microprocessors on the world scale revives. Thus, if usually in the first quarter the deliveries volumes of processors are reduced by 7-8% in comparison with the fourth quarter previous year, then in this year the drop in sales volumes of microprocessors did not exceed 5,6%. In the annual expression the volumes increased by 39%, in the cost by up to 40,4%.
If we examine the dynamics of each market segment individually, then in the quarterly expression the sales volumes of mobile processors were reduced by 6,3 %, for desktop processors by 5,1%, server processors by 1,4%. The realization price of processors grew by 4,1%. This speaks, that users are interested in more and more expensive processors. The portion of atom processors in the deliveries structure of Intel mobile processors , for example was reduced from 24% to 20%. According to IDC forecasts, in 2010 the sales volumes of processors will grow as minimum by 15,1%.
For Intel company in the first quarter this year it was possible to increase its market share from 80,5% to 81%, AMD company yielded 0,6% to the level of 18,8%, VIA was satisfied by 0,2% of market. In the mobile segment the arrangement of forces appeared as follows: Intel controls 87,8% (+0,5%), AMD controlled 12,1% (- 0,6%), in VIA portion enter 0,1% of market. In the server segment Intel recaptured from AMD 0,4% of market, now in the portion of the first it is 90,2% of market, in the portion of the second - 9,8%. In the desktop segment Intel controls 71,7% (+0,6%) of market, in the portion of AMD there is 28% (- 0,7%), VIA company is satisfied by 0,3% of segment.
According to IC insights study data , the deliveries volumes of semiconductor chips in the first quarter this year reached 44,5 billion pieces, after breaking the previous record, set in the third quarter 2008.
