Reduction in energy consumption of traditional hard disks on magnetic plate is achieved by a decrease in the rotation speed . Optimum balance between productivity and electric power savings is considered as 5900 rp/min , seagate company yesterday released the new series of HDD barracuda green.

The rotation speed was equal to 5900 r/min HDD are produced with the use of materials with low halogens content, and 70% of utilized materials can be subjected to processing. To buyers are proposed the selection of HDD with the interface SATA-300 and 32 mb buffer, or HDD with the interface SATA-600 and 64 mb buffer. The latter possess lower energy consumption: 3.8 W against 6.8 W under load, and 4.5 W against 5.5 W in the rest state. Versions with SATA-300 interface are proposed in models with 1 Tb, 1.5 Tb and 2 Tb volume, model with SATA-600 interface have volume 1.5 Tb and 2 Tb.

The series barracuda green supports the technology smartAlign, which is been the optimized version Of advanced format, Seagate supplied Advanced format with certain update, which allow to simply integrate new HDD in existing systems.
