Wi-Fi module is one of the most powe unefficient elements of the mobile device. Even while in standby mode, it consumes up to two thirds the energy needed for its valuable work, as it must continuously scan and search for new network. Scientists from Michigan University have developed a control system, whose task - to reduce power consumption of wireless module in standby mode, keeping all the necessary functions.
The idea is simple. Complex programs, which researchers called E-MiLi (Energy Minimizing Idle Listening), lowers the frequency of adapter to sixteen times by inserting it into suspended animation, but even in this state, Wi-Fi module is able to recognize the packet headers .
