For the third quarter 2011 , WD managed to sell 58 million hard drives, while revenue was 2.7 billion dollars. Net income are equals $ 239 million or $ 1.01 per share . If you do not take into account costs of $ 21 million related to the acquisition of Hitachi Global Storage, which was announced in 7 March , 2011, net profit totaled $ 260 million or $ 1.10 per share. For comparison, during the same period last year, revenues were 2.4 billion dollars, net profit amounted to 197 million dollars, and the drives supply volume in quantitative terms, amounted to 51 million units.
The results of previous quarter at Seagate are good too. Reported in the last quarter revenues were $ 2.8 billion dollars (according to analysts - 2.9 billion). Net Seagate income, on the contrary are equal to $ 146 million ($ 0.34 per share). In fact, WD delivers more hard drives than Seagate, but the latter at the same time can get more cash.
It should be noted that WD is awaiting approval of deal with Hitachi by antitrust agencies , which will be received on 30 November. Seagate, in turn, intends to become the world's largest HDD manufacturer , and suggests the possibility to ship between 40 million and 50 million drives.
