Seeking ways to reduce the cost of ultrabook , Intel offers its partners to use alternative types of batteries. In particular, it refers to the cylindrical and prismatic lithium-ion batteries.
First cylindrical batteries 16650, have a diameter of 16 millimeters, impose certain requirements on the thickness of ultrabook body. In addition, these batteries are produced only by the Japanese company Sanyo and China BAK, and the production of the latter is unlikely to pass the certification. This makes Sanyo, in fact, the only vendor with the terms of which ultrabook producers simply can not agree.
Prismatic batteries have used a greater cost in comparison with cylindrical, but are characterized by compact dimensions (60 x 80 mm at a thickness of 6.5 millimeters) and are available in the range of a wide suppliers. However, the lack of certification and small capacity will detain their appearance in ultrabook, at least until 2013.
Acer company, which has long-term partnership with Sanyo, opted for a cylindrical battery, while Lenovo completes with prismatic batteries some IdeaPad Notebook 530. Related Products :
