ARM noted that processors with 64-bit extensions and can have a number of cores up to 16 or more. The company's research center in Barcelona is already showing a prototype of a processor with 48 cores, which in the future will be able to be installed in smartphones.
While analysts assign to the appearance of such processors in smartphones from five to ten years, Intel representatives are confident that it will happen sooner. Users will be able to solve multiple demanding tasks at once, and a smartphone in the future will replace the PC in all its form factors, if provided the opportunity to work with a full-size external keyboard and large monitor.
Smartphones in the future might get a few cameras that recognize objects and estimate the distance between them. Interaction with the user is carried via a voice interface. Of course, much will depend on the development of software that can use all 48 cores of the processor. Now even eight cores desktop is not loaded equally in some cases, not to mention the mobile processor with 48 cores. Intel representatives believe that multi-core processors will be able to save energy through efficient distribution of computational load.
