Asetek develops liquid cooling systems not only consumer class. The company released a new product called RackCDU , which is designed for high-end systems and will be demonstrated at the conference supercomputer technologies in the cluster formed from 23 servers Intel H2216WPJR size 2U, each consisting of four dual-processor nodes. In this case, the model used CPU Xeon E5-2690.
It is estimated that such a cluster consumes about 37 kilowatts of electricity, which is almost fully converted into heat. At this density the use of air cooling systems is difficult: for normal air conditioning installation will require equipment that uses up to an additional 22 kilowatts of power.
Asetek solution greatly simplifies the problem and it does not require huge energy costs. Refrigerant RackCDU collects 85% of the allocated server heat. Importantly, the system uses a warm liquid, so there is no need to install separate complex refrigeration, heat transfer shall communicate to the desired temperature. Overall RackCDU save up to 50% of the energy spending to cool servers.
By the way, Asetek water block offers not only the processor and memory, but also parallel computing accelerators. In particular, the model officially supports NVIDIA Tesla K20.
