The first ARM-based processors with 64-bit architecture will be at the end of this year, and server vendors will take them into service in 2014-2015. Competing solutions with Intel low power Atom processors face adapted already support 64-bit. The problem also lies in the fact that the server software must be adapted to the particular processor ARM architecture. Should be developed a general model and BIOS compatible with network management. In the segment of x86-compatible servers existence of such infrastructure is the norm for the past 25 years.
Dell did not say when servers are ready to offer customers ARM-based processors, but in this segment the company is not willing to follow the path of HP Moonshot , and plans to offer a more flexible approach. Dell already has samples of servers based on 32-bit and 64-bit ARM processors in its labs.
