In the low price segment , this summer we will have the video card geForce 8400 GS and Radeon HD 2400 Pro, which are present on the retail market or prepare to enter there . In this news we will talk about several tests for models geForce 8400 GS, GeForce 8500 GT, Radeon HD 2400 Pro and Radeon HD 2400 XT. Let us recall that GeForce 8400 GS differ from GeForce 8500 GT predominantly in terms of memory system bus : 64 bits instead of 128 bits. This has large impact on its performance , also let us add the graphic card design . However, frequencies remain as before - 450/1000/800 MHz in the standard version, video card geForce 8400 GS are usually equipped with 2.5 ns GDDR-2 memory . If we compare the GeForce 8400 GS with GeForce 8500 GT, then difference in memory system bus (64bits vs 128 bits)  result in a drop in speed by 30 - 50%. The Competitor to GeForce 8400 GS (on price) is the Radeon HD 2400 Pro, and it is inferior then NVIDIA card in games with directX 9 support  , but ATI card is faster in directX 10. Let us note that Nvidia has not optimized their driver for directx10 support ,so the situation can varies later with newer driver. IN addition we deal here (with Direct x 10 performance ) where both card has lower then 5 fps frame rate witch far from being acceptable. Here is as reference a review with some direct x 10 benchmark for the Radeon HD 2400 Pro and XT : In the same review (Radeon HD 2600 XT AND HD 2400 XT Review) there is a comparison with hardware acceleration (video decoding ) using the standards h.264, VC-1 and MPEG-2 HD. If the first is supported by both GeForce 8400 GS and Radeon HD 2400 Pro, then VC-1 acceleration at the hardware level is only supported by Radeon HD 2400 Pro. This immediately affected the loading level of the central processor - on the average 26% for AMD, and 57% for GeForce 8400 GS  . Let us note that Radeon HD 2400 Pro possesses the native HDMI support . For someone this factor will become decisive, and rest will prefer the GeForce 8400 GS as faster video card with for comparable price.   Related Products :
