According to DigiTimes, manufacturers of NAND-memory controllers expect a significant increase in demand for SSDs with PCI-Express interface in the second half of next year.
It is well known that the PCI-Express allows drives to demonstrate significantly better performance than the old interface SATA3, and compact size, very well suited for use in laptops and other mobile devices.
According to industry sources, the share of laptops equipped with SSDs instead of classic drives on magnetic plates in the third quarter of 2015 will reach 40-50%, whereas now it does not exceed 5-10%. Along the way there will be a gradual decline in storage by the end of next year we may well see a price tag of about $ 60 for 256 GB .
Interestingly, DigiTimes says that controllers for SSDs with PCI-Express interface will be produced by three companies: Samsung, Marvell and Phison. Phison publicly announced about to adopt this process technology and the first production batch controllers performed in compliance with its provisions, must appear within the next two months.
