According to HP plans , not later than 2020, it is going to introduce an entirely new computer architecture and system based on it. This project , entitled "Machine". It involves three basic approaches: specialized processors and specialized operating system; transition to non-volatile memory at all levels of the hierarchy - from the SRAM to the long-term storage; transition to silicon photonics for midchip connections. The first working prototype of the Machine, as reported by a company representative at the conference HP Discover, will appear early next year.
It is reported that the company is mired in developing memristor. Commercial release of non-volatile memory to the fourth electrical element was supposed to start two years ago. The memory ReRAM (Resistive RAM), that was supposed to be a memory that would replace the cache processor Machine all levels, memory and solid-state memory system data retention.
As a starting point to create a software ecosystem Machine, HP has decided to release a prototype of an innovative computer based on the conventional DRAM-memory and running one of Linux versions . This allows professionals to practice to assess some aspects of the Machine. In the next step the RAM may be replaced with non-volatile memory with phase change material (PRAM), the benefit of it is already in production. Related Products :
