Internet giant Google has sold nearly five million copies of a virtual reality headset Cardboard since its launch in 2014. A number of Android-app downloads that support work with the device, from the Google Play Store has reached 25 million. This was announced by director of product management Mike Jazayeri , which refers to the Taiwanese trade publication DigiTimes.
Mike Jazayeri said that virtual reality industry is still at an early stage, but Google will continue to develop software and VR-devices. The company will begin to introduce new technologies to expand the ecosystem of virtual reality. In addition, Google also plans to produce games software for the education sector.
Google also is working with the GoPro, together with which they released last year Jump device consisting of 16 cameras Hero4 and intended to shoot panoramic VR-video.
Jazayeri noted that though virtual reality has become a hot topic in recent years, the industry is still filled with problems related primarily to software ergonomics and support content.
Recall, Google Cardboard is cardboard virtual reality headset, designed for smartphones with screen sizes of up to six inches. Related Products :
