There are many available antivirus  , but witch one is the best (efficiency/performance) . Today we decided to check 9 popular antivirus . Here is the list of used antivirus  : AVG Antivirus Free Edition : Avg up update download : Avg antivirus main menu . Avg antivirus security Status Avg antivirus cpu usage while scanning ESET NOD 32 Antivirus : NoD 32 virus signature update . All updated ready for scan . Cpu usage while scanning . F-Secure Internet Security 2008 : F-Secure Internet security 2008 Just installed . All updated and ready for work Processor usage during scan . Kaspersky Internet Security 8.0 (Beta) : Kaspersky Internet security main window . Cpu usage during scan . McAfee Total Protection 2008 : McAfee total protection 2008 main window . processor usage during scan . Norton Antivirus 2008 : Norton 2008 update . Norton 2008 installation process . Panda Antivirus 2008 Avast v4.7 Antivirus Protection : Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2008 System Used : Processor : Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3.2 GHz (400x8); Motherboard : Asus P5b-e Plus Memory : 2 x1 Gb geil @ DDR 800 (4-4-4-12) Video : Nvidia 7950 GT HDD : 2 x320 Seagate raid 0 . 2008 Antivirus performance : First we checked the scan time for each antivirus using 33.7 GB (data , with virus) . Scan time in second  --- Lower = Better Note : Norton antivirus 2008 hangs wile detecting one virus (the time shown above is for 33 % (process) just before the hang up) . The fastest antivirus here is kaspersky with just over 4 min , all other antivirus has about the same performance except MCAfee and Avast witch completely fail the speed scan test . Peak memory usage (In MB) --- Lower = Better Pc-cillin 2008 show here the best result with lowest memory usage while Fsecure is alone with over 160 MB memory . 3Dmark Score (Points)--- Higher = Better Well, it was always interesting to check the overall system performance wile running the virus scan in the background . Here we used 3d2001 . McAfee is the best antivirus here sine it posts the highest 3D2001 score .Norton here makes the slowest system . Note the 3k deference (40.5 and 43.5 ) witch is about 8% system performance . This chart express the time required to compress file in seconds --- Lower = Better Here we compressed 258MB (data : 4555 files) while the antivirus was in scan state .The lightest antivirus here is Avast while the slowest is McAfee .Completely strange result since this last already leads in 3D 2001 . 2008 Antivirus efficiency : Speed and system performance are required in a daily use system but when we talk about antivirus efficiency is a must , capability to detect and remove virus spyware .... Let us check how perform our different antivirus is this test . The same disk with 33.7 Gb data was loaded with 1399 different spyware and Virus :-) . Here kaspersky is King it detects and remove all virus ,PC-cillin and Avast show respectable result , then we have AVG,NOD and panda . Again we note for some reason Norton 2008 hang while detecting the virus number 760 (Hope that symantec will fix this issue soon). For MCAfee and F-secure just no comment (it is better to clean virus manually :-) ). Conclusion : 1) Kaspersky is the best as always -- (Must have) . Download Now (Xtreview Editor Choice ) 2) PC-cillin can be considered as alternative . 3) AVAST was about ok, but it is pretty slow in Scan :-( . 4) AVG , NOD 32 and Panda : good Average antivirus 5) Norton 2008 : well designed , but with some difficulty , we will check with the next version . 6) F-secure : was about average in all test but fail virus detection :-( 7) McAfee : for us this was a complete failure except the good performance in 3D2001 . i just try mcafee , kaspersky,avast free and pro,avira free and pro,avg also free and pro,nod32,trend micro.. i can say really kaspersky is the king in overall performance but it\'s expensive avast is great in detect virus avira good but it slow down my system also avg too trend have a nice interface and a many other jobs than detect viruses like clean system from temp files mobile scan and other but i prefer nod because i am interesting in antivir dont slow down my system and i choose nod32 its very fast and good in detect vir.. my operating sys load faster with nod32 than many other anti vir and its load less than sec when u open it..
