Memory manufacturers are not only eyeing the assets of each other , but also trying to consolidate their efforts in the most profitable areas. For example, as noted by DigiTimes citing the Chinese edition of the Economic Daily News, a US company Micron Technology thought about selling their business for the production of solid-state memory such as NOR. The latter is used in smartphones and tablets to store information used by the operating system, as well as for storage of firmware motherboards.
Release NOR type memory does not provide a financial return, as in the case of NAND type memory used in information storage devices. Even DRAM memory chips Micron bring more benefits than NOR. Taiwan's Winbond Electronics and Chinese GigaDevice Semiconductor mentioned as possible buyers of the business part of Micron, which the American manufacturer Numonyx bought in 2010 for $ 1.27 billion. The amount of this year, the potential transaction is not called and Winbond of its interest in the assets of Micron already disown . By the way, at one time were Numonyx shareholders, Intel and STMicroelectronics, until in 2010 the company did not came under the control of Micron Technology.
