At the quarterly reporting conference, the head of Tesla Ilon Mask said so much yesterday that he outperformed even the most eloquent of his colleagues. Immediately after the greeting, he went on to answer the questions, which allowed us to cover a wide range of topics, and provide us with material for two days of news.
One of the analysts asked Ilona Mask if he was ready to retire by the end of the decade, as he had inadvertently promised, and to leave the post of CEO of Tesla after the mass production of the Model 3 electric car would be adjusted and brought to the right scale. By the way, yesterday representatives of Tesla repeatedly made it clear that the US market hardly needs more Tesla models (Model S and Model X) than it is now. The company already occupies about a third of the American market of "luxury" sedans, and the annual output of 100 thousand units is a sufficient number of Tesla Model S and Model X in aggregate to saturate the US market and similar markets. Obviously, all the growth will now be realized outside of America, as Tesla is determined to bring the annual volume of electric cars production to 500,000 in a couple of years, and then to a million, but only at the expense of Model 3 it is unlikely to be possible. However, the price significantly influences the demand: the same Model 3 can be 30-70 times more popular than the older electromobiles of the brand, and only at the expense of its lower price. These estimates lead the company's managers.
Returning to the career plans of Ilona Mask, it should be noted that he does not rule out the possibility of his resignation as CEO, but plans to dedicate Tesla for the rest of his life. He is ready to work until he becomes "completely decrepit". At the same time, there is no special need to occupy a leading post. Mask is convinced that he will be able to benefit Tesla by controlling the development of technology and design.
