Some cars of fresh model years, even not being hybrids, as an option tried to offer customers solar cells, placed on the roof.  The use of electricity generated by them was supposed primarily for the operation of the ventilation system.  Of course, it was impossible to use the air conditioner exclusively due to "solar electricity", but it was possible to realize the air circulation in the cabin with the engine turned off.  In the case of electric vehicles and hybrids, some manufacturers have made shy attempts to use a solar battery on the roof to recharge the traction battery. As the website Electrek , the head of Tesla Ilon Mask (Elon Musk) at one of the industry events recently criticized such an idea.  The efficiency of the solar battery depends on the cleanliness of the surface and its orientation relative to the celestial luminary, so it is difficult to accumulate a large charge during a parking time in one position.  Earlier Musk talked about the possibility of creating a folding solar panel that would be pulled out of the luggage compartment, covering almost the entire electric vehicle from above, but Tesla's engineers came to the conclusion that this is not worth the trouble.  At least, even if such a method of charging would increase the power reserve by 30-50 km, the implementation of this option would be too complicated technically, and would increase the cost of an electric vehicle disproportionately.  It is much more efficient to use stationary solar panels.
