Intel and NVIDIA began a active collaboration in the sphere of graphical solutions, as the first examples of their interaction can serve the appearance of SLI support in Intel platform x58. We already reported that the idea of hybrid SLI is based on instantaneous switching between the integrated chipset video core and discrete video card without rebooting the systems, NVIDIA company first decided to realize this new technology in the mobile platform centrino 2.
This week NVIDIA published the official press release, in which they reported about the readiness of notebook from Sony, Fujitsu Siemens and BenQ , Those models dynamically switch between the chipset graphic core (from INTEL) and discrete video card series GeForce 9M without rebooting the system. This technology allow to increase the notebook battery life in 2D regime . For example, the notebook Sony VAIO Z series can reach five hours using this tehnologie.
Hybrid technology will be supported by all video card series GeForce 9M. Currently only the following products are compatible with this technology :
- Sony series VAIO Z on base Of GeForce 9300M GS;
- Fujitsu Siemens amilo XI 3650 on base Of GeForce 9600M GT;
- BenQ joybook s42 on base Of GeForce 9600M GT.
Note that frequent switching between the graphic cores are capable of wasting rapidly the battery charge ; therefore the obtained electric power savings effect will depend on the skill of user to competently plan its work.
