TDK Company, which releases heads of magnetic hard disks, talked about the future of HDD. Currently, the maximum writing density, ensured by the serially produced heads, corresponds to the capacity of 2,5- inch plate 250 GB and 500 GB - plate for the 3,5- inch models. The company plans to pass to 320 GB plate for 2,5- inch devices.
Now these heads already began to reach HDD producers for testing. Their series production will begin in the present month, and by December, they will reach their full power. This means that HDD suppliers will soon announce the production of models with two plates with a total volume of 640 GB ( such model was already presented by Seagate company used the external HDD free agent Go). If we use three plates, it is possible to release 2,5- inch HDD with almost tera-byte volume - to be precise 960 GB. The rotation speed of the first models will be 5400 , in newer the speed will be equal to 7200 rp/min. Concerning HDD for desktop systems, now TDK release heads for devices, which contain 500 GB on one plate. Soon will appear heads for models, which contain 640 GB on one plate. Their release will begin in November, and they will reach the mass production in January 2010. This will allow HDD producers to propose models with 2,5 TB volume (four plates) already in February next year. When desired, producers can add one additional plate and present the model with 3,2 TB volume. As a whole, the first half of next year will be noted by an increase in the storage capacity, which belong to different segments, by approximately 25%. Related Products :
